Not to mention that the package probably assumes that the sounds sit
under /var/lib/asterisk/sounds .

Even if this problem is solved by symlinks, there is the deeper issue of
that user interface modifying files under /usr . Think of someone with a
read-only /usr who wants to use AMP or a similar interface (DeStar also
has the same assumption).

Any smart way of putting some of the sounds under /var? A writable
subdirectory a-la voicemail?
