Package versions

Apologies for asking a question in this way, but I'm not sure who else =
to
ask.

What is the relationship between the debian package for gnugk, and the =
cvs
at sourceforge?  In particular I need a version which has a fix for
Netmeeting compatibility in proxy mode, and this was apparently entered =
into
the sourceforge cvs 05/05/05. How do I know if this fix has been
incorporated in the Debian release?
