getting speex working with asterisk

Hi there

I installed asterisk on hoary ubuntu from the debian /
ubuntu repository and it has been working fine.

But now I am trying to get speex working with
Asterisk. So I installed the libspeex1, speex and
speex-dev modules (using ubuntu / debian repositories
as well). But now I am not too sure how to get
asterisk working with speex. Do I need to do a
reinstall asterisk from the repository? Or configure
asterisk in some way?
