This is probably due to a version incompatability bewteen the installed 
zaptel-modules you have installed and your kernel.

What sort of zaptel hardware do you have installed in your system, and when 
was the last time you built the zaptel-modules?

Could you provide the output of:

$ dpkg -l zaptel-modules*

and /etc/zaptel.conf
