Hi Frank,
About the changes between 1.0.x and 1.2 you should read at:
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/index.php?page=Asterisk+v1.2 and the
UPGRADE.txt from the release which is available online at
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/index.php?page=Asterisk+v1.2.0+upgrade ,
also you can take a look at the Astricon presentation in:
http://www.astricon.net/asterisk1-2/
Hope it keeps you busy for a while ;) About the hardware requirements
it really depends on what you need. I you want to connect to ISDN
channels you'll need at least one PCI slot for the PRI/BRI card ;) But
you can read here:
http://voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+dimensioning about
dimensioning and here:
http://voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+hardware for tested hardware.
Hope that helps a bit,
Marc Fargas.
Anyway almost any modern bo should work
