     This is a strange error I have suffered sometimes with openh323 and
     pwlib sources. I don't know where the error is, as it usually just
     vanishes.

     Not. You cannot link a GPL program with openssl and/or openh323.
     You need a statement from copyright holders allowing that. If you
     Google for "openssl debian gpl" I think you will find the statement
     you want (I am offline at the moment of writing this).
     For openh323 you can take a look at gnomemeeting's one.

     Seems a right approach to me. This will allow people to install
     only libs for what DB engine is going to use.

  Yes, the problem is defining that interface. I mean, asterisk upstream
  should be the one defining that, and changing it only when needed,
  clearly stating that. If not, we will have to check every module
  depending on asterisk to see if it needs a recompile or not, or wait
  for some user to report us a bug.
