Hi Claude,

Yes I'm one of the the main maintainers, along with the Debiann
pkg-voip-maintainers of the asterisk-sounds-xxx packages.
http://packages.debian.org/asterisk-sounds-main
http://packages.debian.org/asterisk-sounds-extra

Great! Debian is very happy to distribute packages licenced under the GPL.

http://ftp.digium.com/pub/asterisk/asterisk-sounds-1.2.1.tar.gz actually
appears to be licenced under a BSD licence. Which we are happy to include in
Debian.

However Debian is not happy to distribute the Music On Hold (MOH) files from
fpm <http://ftp.digium.com/pub/asterisk/asterisk-1.2.7.1.tar.gz> as they are
licenced only for use with asterisk, and this is incompatible with the Debian
Free Software Guildlines
<http://www.debian.org/social_contract#guidelines>. However if upstream were
to relicense these or other MOH under the GPL we would be happy to include
them in Debian.

Our preference would be for a distributed tar file, like the files referenced
earlier so we can have some portion of version control.

You might even want to separate the sounds from the main tar of the asterisk
software, as the sounds tend not to update as quickly as the software.

Yes high quality prompts, such as wav, would sound a lot better than the
current gsm encoding.

Great.

Please let us know when they are ready.
