Did you ensure the new plugin codecs were available to be accessed by
the application?

I've heard lots of reports of problem with the ALSA driver.
That driver is completely broken on my FC5 machine, so I am unable to
help with this.

Once again, log files will be needed.

I've also has problem with the OSS driver. The biggest problem is that
OSS only supports the sample rates supported by the hardware. This means
that many chipsets that only do 48khz are not usable at 8khz.
