I'll just note that the relevant functionality has not changed between
Etch (1.2) and current (1.4, and even the upcoming 1.6), except the
default config file.

As of Asterisk 1.2, the recommended method for music-on-hold is through
native music playing, rather than through an external player process.

In addition, mp3 is generally not a recommended format for on-hold
music. You will typically spend many CPU cycles each time ou play for
decompressing the mp3 and then downsampling it to phone quality.

You better downsample it in advance to e.g. a wav file using sox.

Sadly this is not reflected in the default config of the Etch package
(and of upstream in 1.2)
