From that, and without having checked the technical effort, I'd
vote res_timing_timerfd as the default. Kernels recent enough will
be available soon.[1]

Maybe a dummy package with some warm words about
res_timing_timerfd depending on recent kernels, res_timing_dahdi
depending on certain hardware, and res_timing_pthread being the
least preferred but most compatible helps. I am not sure whether a
virtual package transports this information clearly enough to joe
average user.

[1] I am running a self-made 2.6.28ish and have no DAHDi, so I
will go for res_timing_timerfd anyway.
