Package: asterisk
Version: 1:1.4.21.2~dfsg-3+lenny1
Severity: normal
Skype for Asterisk is now out of beta testing, and available to everyone; however, it seems that Debian users will have to
compile their own Asterisk system from scratch, rather than using the Debian packages, due to version mismatches. From the
Skype for Asterisk README:
--->
It is required that the proper version of Asterisk is installed prior to
installing Skype For Asterisk. Skype For Asterisk is currently supported on:
Asterisk 1.4 versions >= 1.4.25
Asterisk 1.6.0 versions >= 1.6.0.6
Asterisk 1.6.1 versions >= 1.6.1.5
Previous versions of Asterisk WILL NOT work properly with Skype For Asterisk.
It is also important to make sure that the major version of Skype For Asterisk
downloaded matches the version of Asterisk installed on the system. Trying to
compile Skype For Asterisk 1.4 versions on Asterisk 1.6.0 while fail, etc.
There is no version of Skype For Asterisk for Asterisk trunk.
<---
Debian Stable (Lenny) uses a version prior to 1.4.25, so is, presumably, not compatible; and even if I were willing to
upgrade my whole system to Testing (Squeeze) just to get this one aspect working, that uses Asterisk 1.6.2.0, which, from
the comment above re the Asterisk trunk, I presume would not work either.
Not sure what is possible re a workaround within the various Debian policies; I'm guessing you're not allowed to put
Asterisk 1.4.25 into Lenny, as it wasn't there during the testing phase, but I'd be delighted to be wrong on that. At any
rate, I do hope Skype for Asterisk will work on Squeeze, in due course, as that's a great development for Asterisk users.
