There's no hurry on this, especially when sid is in a freeze.  If you
prefer minimal changes, you could take a look at the libtool patch
posted in #692222.  I've found that applying that patch directly in
configure fixes the build -- though that has its own obvious issues.
Maybe if you apply it directly in libtool.m4, aclocal.m4, and
configure it would be OK?
