Thank you for this bug report.  So opal.pc is provided by two packages.

opal source package (the package I am in charge of) has been providing 
opal.pc since at least 2008.  What about openmpi's one?  I noticed that 
stable version has it, but oldstable does not.

Andreas, what should we do to solve this issue?
