Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Usertags: remove
Control: affects -1 src:ring src:jami
Please remove ring from Debian. It provides 2 binaries, jami and
jami-daemon that are also built by the newer source package jami. The
ring and jami packaging is basically identical since they were
uploaded by the same person.
Unfortunately, jami and ring fail to build from source currently with
multiple issues and I don't think anyone is working on fixing this.
But jami still has binaries published in experimental. jami's issues
may be so severe that the latest binaries no longer work in
Trixie/Unstable. See https://bugs.debian.org/1087920
It feels clear to me that anyone that wants to fix jami/ring should do
it in the jami source package (the name matches the new upstream
project name and the existing binary packages). Then upload the fixed
version to Unstable.
Therefore, there is no need for the ring source package and it ought
to be removed from Debian.
Thank you,
Jeremy Bícha
