Package: jami
Severity: normal

Hi Amin et al,

It looks like Jami/Ring is about to fall out of stable once trixie is released.

I was wondering if that's just a result of Amin being kept busy at the new job,
or if there was actually an intention to keep Jami out of testing until the next
release for some reason (perhaps prompted by issues relating to changing package
names?)

If it's just about lack of time, I'd hope that it's not too much effort to
package Jami, given that upstream publishes packages targeting several Debian
suites, so the package is hopefully pretty-much done already.

I had a quick look at the README.Debian from the jami package, and then noticed
that upstream seem to be doing their work in the jami-client-qt repo, so at that
point wasn't really sure about the best way to end up with a useful package.

I've installed upstream's .deb from their repo, and it works well.

BTW The thing that prompted me to look at Jami was a friend mentioning that they
were needing a replacement for Skype (I was quite surprised to discover that I
knew someone still using that TBH). Anyway, it occurs to me there might be a few
more Skype refugees around, so it seems it would be a shame if Jami getting a
boost from Skype's demise were to coincide with Debian dropping it from stable.

Cheers, Phil.
