as I am a Asterisk user with C and some Debian packaging experience and
would like to help having it in stable I'd also be ready to help.

My relevant contribution to Asterisk until now was providing a patch to
dahdi dkms: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1081372
(but I am currently mainly active around the Linux mobile ecosystem)
