TODAY’S TEMPERATURE CHECK
🌡️ MAXIMUM — The United States is in an active shooting war in the Middle East for the seventh consecutive day. Markets are crashing, oil is spiking, and the Strait of Hormuz has effectively ground to a halt. This is the loudest the information environment gets. Which means something important is being buried right now.

🔍 THE BIG STORY
What’s the dominant narrative today?
The U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran and Lebanon have ramped up, with explosions heard across Tehran and Beirut overnight into Friday. CNN [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/6de7469f-138d-4d16-8cdb-4bbd131894bc?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ] Preliminary figures stand at over 1,332 dead in Iran, at least 11 in Israel, six U.S. soldiers, and nine killed in Gulf states. Al Jazeera [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/e3c0de91-29a0-411d-a6c1-3595cff530f0?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ] The war is now in its seventh day with no ceasefire in sight.
What’s being said
The official narrative: Iran posed an imminent nuclear threat, diplomacy failed, and military action was the only option. Secretary of State Marco Rubio insisted “there absolutely was an imminent threat” to the U.S. from Iran that justified the offensive. CNBC [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/0a726fb6-508f-493a-8257-785df5da1233?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ] Defense Secretary Hegseth said: “This is not a so-called regime-change war, but the regime sure did change, and the world is better off for it.” CNBC [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/0a726fb6-508f-493a-8257-785df5da1233?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ]
What’s not being asked
A peace deal was reportedly on the table the day before the bombs dropped. On Friday, less than 24 hours before the first bombs hit Tehran, Oman’s Foreign Minister publicly described a framework where Iran had agreed to never stockpile enriched uranium and to accept full IAEA verification — calling it a breakthrough “never achieved” before. He said all remaining issues could be resolved within months and that a deal was “within reach.” The50501movement [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/10823236-e388-4c4c-b144-15da32da52ad?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ] By Saturday morning, Tehran was on fire. Why?
Trump’s claim that Iran could “soon” have a missile capable of hitting the U.S. homeland is not backed by U.S. intelligence. Three sources familiar with intelligence reports told Reuters the claim is exaggerated. The50501movement [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/10823236-e388-4c4c-b144-15da32da52ad?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ] If the justification for war was exaggerated, what was the actual justification?
Senior Trump administration advisors said it would be better if Israel struck Iran first so the United States would have a better justification for going to war after Iran retaliated. Wikipedia [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/800aa753-9f3a-44d3-9671-04b7762ce326?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ] That’s not defense. That’s a setup. Why is nobody calling it that?
📡 UNDER THE RADAR
Story 1: The Strait of Hormuz has effectively stopped moving — and nobody is talking about what that means for you.
The Strait of Hormuz carries roughly 20 million barrels of oil per day and about one-fifth of global liquefied natural gas. Shippers are now weighing the risk of missile and drone strikes in the narrow corridor, bringing it to a near-halt. Fox News [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/a155a5d7-39fb-4bb1-a3f5-d1dcb5341f5c?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ] Markets are already responding — financials and industrials are taking the brunt of declines this morning, with not a single Dow Jones component in the green. Energy stocks are the only winners. TheStreet [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/4127c3ea-e018-447e-9250-d4afcecd2a03?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ] Who profits when oil prices spike during a war? Follow that question.
Story 2: A girls’ elementary school in Iran was struck on the first day of the war.
Iranian state media said one of the airstrikes hit a girls’ primary school in southern Iran, killing at least 85 children. The prosecutors said more girls were still buried under the rubble. Saturday is the start of the Iranian school and work week. NPR [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/29e4dbd8-50f1-4da8-afd0-39173e5d51ed?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ] This story was reported by AP, NPR, Al Jazeera, ABC News, and the Washington Post. It has received a fraction of the coverage given to military “objectives.” Ask yourself why.
Story 3: The U.S. detention system is in crisis — and it disappeared from the news cycle.
Recordings from more than a hundred 911 calls obtained by AP reveal frequent emergencies at Camp East Montana, a massive immigration detention center in Texas, including suicide attempts, assaults, seizures, and untreated medical issues. Rep. Veronica Escobar said the center is closed to visitors until at least March 19 because of a measles outbreak. Just Security [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/7c389c69-aa54-46fb-84a4-ea251e7d2788?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ] This story was generating momentum two weeks ago. Now it’s gone. Wars have a way of doing that.
💰 WHO BENEFITS?
Today’s story under the lens: The timing of Operation Epic Fury
The U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28 — one day after Oman’s foreign minister announced a nuclear breakthrough and said peace was “within reach.” Let’s run the incentives.
The official version benefits: The Trump administration’s legacy narrative as the team that “eliminated” the Iranian nuclear threat. Israel’s long-term strategic objective of neutralizing Iran. Defense contractors — energy stocks are the only sector up this morning as every other sector falls. TheStreet [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/4127c3ea-e018-447e-9250-d4afcecd2a03?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ] Arms manufacturers always benefit from active conflict.
The skeptical version raises questions about: One analysis from Modern Diplomacy argues the Oman announcement of February 27 was itself a narrative operation by Iran — an attempt to make the strikes look like a choice against peace, to make them politically expensive. Iran could not stop the military blow, so it tried to make it diplomatically costly. Modern Diplomacy [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/5ce5478b-f71d-41f5-b1b9-986c05fe1d56?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ] That’s one reading. The other reading is simpler: the decision to strike had already been made regardless of diplomacy, and the talks were window dressing. Trump himself said: “No, I might have forced their hands,” when asked if Israel pulled the U.S. into war. Wikipedia [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/800aa753-9f3a-44d3-9671-04b7762ce326?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ]
Verdict: UNKNOWN — but the questions demand answers. A deal was announced. Bombs fell the next morning. Congress was not consulted. The public received an 8-minute Truth Social video at 2 AM. Whether the diplomacy was genuine or theater on both sides, the decision to go to war was made by one person, announced on social media, in the middle of the night. That alone is worth sitting with.
📢 THE NOISE
🔴 Trump says he wants to be “involved” in choosing Iran’s next Supreme Leader. WATCH — this is not noise, it’s a direct statement of imperial intent dressed up as a news item. File it.
🔴 Stock market coverage dominating financial media. LIKELY DISTRACTION — yes, markets matter. But the framing of “how does this affect your portfolio” replaces the harder question of “how does this affect the people under the bombs.”
🟡 Pakistan-Afghanistan border conflict displacing 115,000 people. BURIED STORY being drowned out by Iran coverage — the week-long conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan has displaced an estimated 115,000 people in Afghanistan and 3,000 in Pakistan. Just Security [ https://link.sbstck.com/redirect/7c389c69-aa54-46fb-84a4-ea251e7d2788?j=eyJ1IjoiN3A2MWozIn0.YRN2YwNG0HqFxemR3daCLb-UZMXA4tOgW1oRDnkbq00 ] This would be front-page news in any other week.
📚 YOUR HOMEWORK
Find and read Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi’s statement from February 27, 2026 — the day before the strikes. It is publicly available. Read his exact words about what Iran agreed to. Then read the U.S. government’s explanation for why the strikes proceeded anyway. Compare them side by side. You are not looking for a verdict — you are looking for the gap between the two stories. That gap is where the real question lives.
⚖️ THE VERDICT
A nuclear deal was described as “within reach” on a Friday. By Saturday morning, the Supreme Leader of Iran was dead, a girls’ school was rubble, and the United States was at war. The administration that promised no more regime change wars announced regime change as an explicit objective on Truth Social at 2 AM without a congressional vote or a press conference.
None of this is secret. It is all in the public record. The question is not whether you support or oppose the war. The question is whether the story you were told about why it started holds up when you look at the timeline.
Does the 24-hour gap between “peace is within reach” and “bombs away” deserve an answer?
