GTA 6 Was Supposed to Release TODAY—Here’s Why You’re Not Playing It
May 26, 2026. That was the date Rockstar locked in for Grand Theft Auto 6‘s release. Today. You should be playing GTA 6 right now. Instead, you’re reading a newsletter about why you’re not.
The timeline that broke our hearts
December 2023: Rockstar drops first GTA 6 trailer. Sets vague “2025” window.
May 2024: Rockstar confirms Fall 2025 release. Hype reaches nuclear levels.
February 2025: Rockstar quietly delays to May 26, 2026. Fans accept it—an extra 6 months for polish.
November 6, 2025: Rockstar drops the bomb—delayed AGAIN to November 19, 2026. Take-Two Interactive’s stock drops 8% in one day.
Rockstar’s statement: “The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and GTA 6 is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

GTA 6 is still on track for November 19, 2026 — 177 days away. TechRadar reported last week: “GTA 6 is still poised for November 19, 2026, and marketing starts very soon.”
Take-Two earnings call last week (May 22) revealed:
No additional delays
Marketing campaign begins “very soon“ (industry interprets as June)
Trailer 3 expected before Summer Game Fest (June 6)
November launch remains “locked in”
