Regarding your latest email (I only saw it because I went to the BTS),
I can confirm that, on two computers, upgrading webkitgtk does fix the
issue at hand.

A bit off-topic here, but since we are talking about atril and you are
probably worried about Ubuntu 18.04 being a LTS release, you may want
to know about this bug that I filed before (just checked and bionic's
changelog doesn't seem to have it):
