Given that this seems to be a very DE-specific issue, I tend to
"Suggests".

But then again, there is no such package "python-appindicator". I
assume you meant "python-ayatana-appindicator". Can you confirm that?

I take this as "as soon as I install the above mentioned package, the
icon shows up again", i.e. as confirmation that installing the package
indeed fixes the issue. (You didn't mention that explicitly so it was
initially unclear for me if this is just a suggestion for a possible
fix or a tested fix.)
