Thanks! So it's not an unexpected encoding as I suspected but correct
UTF-8. "\xe2\x80\x99" is actually the "’" glyph/character.

That's interesting. Thanks for these details. Sounds to me as if it
generally works, but at one or two places, there's some Unicode
handling missing.

Will see if I can find that spot.
