Please do, I'd be interested to hear about it from anyone other than

Yes.

Indeed. I looked at backporting that support to 2.6.26 but it was too
intrusive and touched a lot of generic code.

I'm hoping there will be a lenny+half with a >= 27 kernel at some
point...
