Well, in my case I need versions that definitely won't conflict with any official
binary packages including binary-only NMU's, in order to avoid confusing apt.
(Apt tends to act unpredictably if there are two packages from different
repositories with the same version number but different sizes/checksums, which
sometimes includes the behavior of wanting to "upgrade" the package to one
version every time it runs, but ending up (re)installing the other version
instead.) My pbuilder hook script does check a blacklist of packages not to
apply the +pb\d version to, but I prefer to keep it minimal -- right now it
only has linux-2.6, linux-kbuild-2.6, and dh-make-perl, and based on your
comments I might have to add xen as well.

I initially thought from looking at the build log that the problem was a
missing Build-Depends on linux-support-2.6.32-5. Sorry I neglected to check
the bug against a vanilla pbuilder setup before I filed the bug.
