Even after the release of Wheezy, there's one year of support for
Squeeze. If you can produce a patch, I don't see why it wouldn't reach
Squeeze, at least through proposed-updates.

The issue is how much time you want to invest yourself in the issue, and
how you can motivate / convince current maintainers (eg: mostly Waldi)
to work on it. I'd say that unless you search, and find the way to fix
yourself, then I don't see why anyone would be interested in your
specific issue.

But again, if you can produce a working and tested patch, I don't see
why it wouldn't be applied...
