Just FYI position of upstream is that the "traditional" qemu-dm will
continue to be maintained for the foreseeable future for the benefit of
users who are running guest OSes which are not as happy to have the
"motherboard" changed from under them as Linux is.
Also the upstream default device model remains the traditional one in
4.2, since as you have observed the mainline qemu stuff is not quite
ready yet. We hope to address this in 4.3.
Of course you are free to diverge from this in the Debian packaging if
you wish.
