I saw something about this in our documentation long time ago, but never used
it too. If it will not work for you, just make own reproducible[1] tarballs
using special script in debian/ subdir.

Even if it works, I would not recommend to make life of other maintainers
harder. These dancing with pristine-tar may be difficult even for team members,
not to say about other maintainers who might want to prepare MR for specific
package without joining to the team.

So just put debian/ subdir into the git and this will be enough.

Personally I prefer style[2] of work with packages which is used in Debian Qt/KDE
Maintainers team...
