[Pkg-xmpp-devel] Tails will soon stop funding maintenance of src:libotr in Debian

Hi,

You maintain a package that depends on src:libotr.

For many years, the Tails project (now part of the Tor project) has
been funding the work required to maintain src:libotr in Debian.
The reason why we've been doing so was to ship OTR support for Pidgin
in Tails, thanks to the pidgin-otr plugin, which itself uses libotr.

This reason is going away soon:

 - It's not super likely that pidgin-otr makes it into Forky
   (#967701).

 - Tails will probably stop shipping Pidgin in a year or so.

If it's confirmed that Forky will be released without pidgin-otr, or
that Tails stops shipping libotr, whichever happens first, we will
stop funding the maintenance of the package in testing/sid.

Note that we remain committed, resources permitting, to funding the
maintenance of libotr *in Trixie* until the EOL of Trixie (excluding
LTS).

If you have enough desire × spoons to keep libotr alive in Debian,
I encourage you to get in touch with its current maintainer (the
Debian Privacy Tools Maintainers team) and most recent care-taker
(Hefee, Cc'ed).

I understand it does not require much work "thanks" to upstream being
inactive since a while. But as you can see from the package history,
every year or 2, some ecosystem change breaks the package, and an
update is necessary for the package to remain in testing.

Thanks,
