This work should have been better publicized by Debian to ensure that
all actual and potential GSoC candidates had equal levels of
opportunity, access, and resourcing.

Had I known that this work was intended for the Google Summer Of Code,
I certainly would have invited more students to participate when I was
doing code reviews and build testing for Carlos and Aron beginning in
February.

Right, but that means about half of the GSoC deliverables were already
finished before the student application deadline, so things are ahead
of schedule.
