It seems quickest, but is this out of reach because of licensing
restrictions (vendors choose to distribute binary blobs which allow for
driver compilation with DKMS, but my understanding is that that's dealing
with a different license restriction and solves an orthogonal problem to
ours because you can run VESA mode as a compatibility mode before having to
build a driver when the install is effectively complete to allow native
operation)? If binary distribution of CDDL'ed modules is what's suggested
and is possible, it would be helpful to establish that and clarify the
reasoning. If there's a variation that doesn't have licensing issues, that
would also helpful to explain.
