The primary reason Brian have mentioned is something like
"I think it's a better idea to have ZED (the ZFS daemon) to take care of the sharing. This on all the platforms, which makes it easier to maintain across the different platforms. I'm therefor think it's a waste of time to review this, if we have to rewrite the whole thing later".
That is pretty much literraly what he've said about the iSCSI patch. He have not mentioned the SMB and NFS patces by name, but _I_ asume that he includes them in the reason above.
And I _do_ agree with him in that. HOWEVER, it will require _substancial_ work, on all platforms. Especially in the ZFS userland, but also (easier) in ZED.
I really can't see that happening. Not any time soon, but "practically" ever. Anyone doing this needs deep knowledge on all platforms ZFS runs on, and those people are very rare!!
