[Pkg-zfsonlinux-devel] Bug#940238: Acknowledgement (ZFS on Linux fails to install under Buster (dependency problems))

I had luck following the version-pinning instructions on zfsonlinux's Github page with Debian instructions.

And in case that changes or disappears:
# vi /etc/apt/sources.list.d/buster-backports.list
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian buster-backports main contrib
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian buster-backports main contrib

# vi /etc/apt/preferences.d/90_zfs
Package: libnvpair1linux libuutil1linux libzfs2linux libzpool2linux spl-dkms zfs-dkms zfs-test zfsutils-linux zfsutils-linux-dev zfs-zed
Pin: release n=buster-backports
Pin-Priority: 990

apt update && apt install -yes dpkg-dev linux-headers-$(uname -r) linux-image-amd64 && apt-get install zfs-dkms zfsutils-linux



And finally, during the install, it will still bomb out trying to process zfs-zed and zfsutils-linux. You can get around this by    modprobe zfs, then apt install -f.
