Depending directly on gcc or build-essential will not actually resolve
the issue, sometimes it works coincidentally when kernel gcc is the
same as default gcc, which isn't guaranteed by the kernel team's
design. This is true for almost all dkms packages, and you might want
to raise this issue to the dkms package and kernel team one more time.
