Smooth upgrades are generally desirable, however I'm not convinced
this migration is worth the cost.  I don't know that a smooth upgrade
is even possible, considering the potential (likelihood, rather) that
people have custom code that may not work when the platform changes.
Now we have 2.8 and 3.0 to package as well.  If you feel it is worth
the effort to try and make the packages upgrade from 2.6 to 2.7,
then go ahead.
