Hello,

I am using Dapper but the symptoms were present in the sarge and breezy
distribs.

I cannot run a zope instance that offers to create a Plone instance. I
install zope through aptitude and I create a zope instance with
/usr/lib/zope2.8/bin/mkzopeinstance.py. I called the instance perso in
/var/lib/zope2.8/instance/

Then I installed plone with aptitude and notice that it lands in
/usr/share/zope/Products.

What should I do next?
 * add a line "products     /usr/share/zope/Products" in
/etc/zope2.8/perso/zope.conf?
This does not work : once zope is re-launched there still is no possibility
to add a Plone instance from the ZMI. (if I launch it with runzope, it
complains shortly about /usr/share/.../kupu, then I guess it found the
products).

 * copy /usr/share/zope/Products/*  into
/var/lib/zope2.8/instance/perso/Products?
I comment the added line in zope.conf, I restart zope. This does not seem to
work either. No new entries in the drop down list in the ZMI.

* install plone-site from aptitude? and indeed there is an entry in the ZMI
of the newly created zope instance.
The package plone site seems to copy its products in
/var/lib/zope2.8/instance/plone-site/. What I can do now is copy every
folders from the plone-site/Products to perso/Products. It does add line
plone site in the drop down list of the ZMI.

This seems a bit awkward, what doc can I read, what can I do to help?

What is the correct procedure to add/test new product (say CMFphotoslide)
from the debian/ubuntu repositories?

Shoud I file a bug in Launchpad?

Thank you, (thanks also for having repaired the python-xml package),

rob
