I agree, python-van.pydeb predates and should be replaced by pybuild
wherever possible. A few years ago, when I looked at pybuild the only
deficiency it had was properly supporting setuptools extras (see
zope.component).
Removing python-van.pydeb usage has probably been on my TODO list for 3
years or so...
