I don't think that users should expect a system to be pretty usable
during a dist-upgrade.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a look at it.

Another thing which I haven't tested, but which very likely mitigates
this issue pretty well is to run apt, apt-get or aptitude with "-o
APT::Immediate-Configure-All=true".
