I just checked, and yep, the box-drawing characters appear with monospace
set. I noticed, though, that the individual characters are annotated with
"DejaVu Sans Mono" when I right-click (see attached screenshot).
Unfortunately, when I set terminal/system fonts to DejaVu sans mono, I
still get replacement characters.

I would have sworn this happened with a fresh netinstall, but I also likely
ticked the "Use backported software" field when the installer asked for it.
It seems entirely likely that one of the backported font packages is
causing this issue, then :-)
