Not really, only indirectly via Debian. But I know a few MOTU (Masters
of the Universe — pun intended) guys whom I can poke in case I think
something needs to be fixed in Ubuntu quickly. And I'm subscribe to
bug reports against zsh in Ubuntu, etc.

I think so, yes.

Wasn't needed — my plan to incorporate all Ubuntu changes with a
os-dependent switch for the only disputed difference (loading
completion by default or not) already worked out:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zsh/5.8-2

5.8-2 — which I uploaded last night to Unstable — is in
"focal-proposed" since about three hours ago. Yay! :-D

You should be able to follow its state in Ubuntu on
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zsh

Correct and I'm well aware of it.

Correct. But that's exactly what I fixed by incorporating all
remaining Ubuntu changes and adding a switch where Ubuntu insisted on
different defaults. (You probably haven't seen the discussion over on
the Debian Zsh Team mailing list (cc'ed) about this seemingly
controversial move…)

I'm just really happy that my plan wrt. succeeded so easily. I didn't
even have to bother someone at Ubuntu. :-)
