That's a note. The DevRef recommends treating it as a title

Beware that popcon being installed during the system install, the
question pops up at a "random" moment during the whole installaiton
process.

So I would recommend avoiding "this package" or specific reference to
the fact that the user "installs" the package. Indeed, most often, the
installer chooses to install it for him/her.

My proposal:

The popularity-contest package sets up a cron job that will
periodically anonymously submit, to the distribution developers,
statistics about the most used packages on this system.

Please avoid "us". "helps making decisions....".

I would recommend avoiding branding, maybe. That will help derived
distributions.

My proposal:

This information helps making decisions such as which packages should
go on the first CD. Also, it helps improving can improve future
versions of the distribution so that the most popular packages are
the ones which are installed automatically for new users.

I propose unbranding:

_Description: Participate in the package usage survey?

My proposal:

The system may anonymously supply the distribution developers with
statistics about the most used packages on this system. This
information influences decisions such as which packages should go on
 the first distribution CD.

This choice can be later modified by running "dpkg-reconfigure
 popularity-contest".

(avoids "change your mind and adds a final dot...:-)

PS: I won't be able to answer further mails until Wednesday. Even
there, my mail reading window is pretty short so I'm not sure I'll be
able to react to comments.
