[Popcon-developers] popcon for smolt quickhack

hello!

i'm currently extending the smolt hardware tracker by a gentoo-specific
software statistics as a google summer of code project.
the long term mission for smolt is to collect statistics across distros.

for fun and to move a bit further into the cross-distro direction i have
been quick-porting the "popularity-contest" script of popcon 1.48 to
smolt (python) in my smolt git repo today.

i come here in hope to find debian developers who like to experiment
and shape a possible debian-smolt future. first as a parallel
solution to popcon, later maybe as a replement, depending on where
  we end up with it.

the python-smolt-popcon code has it's gitweb over here, check the latest
commits on the "debian" and "experimental" branch:

  http://git.goodpoint.de/?p=smolt-gentoo.git

stuff you could do on a shell to see it in action:

  # git clone git://git.goodpoint.de/smolt-gentoo.git
  # cd smolt-gentoo

  # git checkout --track -b debian origin/debian
  # cd client/distros/debian
  # python main.py 2>&1 | less

(the experimental integration needs a running local server,
hald, and dbus. if needed, i can describe that, too.)

please share your thoughts and git patches with me :-)
