Heh I'm no python expert either.  Are you on amd64?  From #529961, the
problem seems to be isolated to that.

I seem to have only python2.5 installed, although I have /etc/python2.4
conffiles from python2.4. 

PYTHONPATH is initially unset for me too:

$ echo $PYTHONPATH

===================================

Perplexing.
