Those commands will trigger the bug:

  mkdir dir1
  touch dir1/file1 
  ln dir1/file1 dir1/file3 
  rdiff-backup dir1 dir2

  ln dir1/file1 dir1/file2 
  rdiff-backup dir1 dir2 

  rdiff-backup -r now dir2 dir3 

I have find a similar sequence of commands in a comment in the original
bug report at the Savannah bug tracker for rdiff-backup:
