Ah, speaking of which -- i'm not sure why libjs-jquery is listed as a
Build-Depends: entry.  can you explain why that's necessary?

I understand why it's a necessary Depends: entry, since we're aiming to
avoid shipping the embedded code.  Can you help me understand where it
gets used during the package build?
