I'm having the same problem.

On google I found a similar issue on ubuntu:

but i'm not sure how to apply the workaround in debian

I'm able to load gobject from a python prompt:

$ python
Python 2.7.5+ (default, Jun  2 2013, 13:26:34)
[GCC 4.7.3] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
 >>> import gobject
 >>>
