The problem with _set_hostport is probably a separate issue, fixed
in 3.0.1; see:

About the original issue: Vitaliy, I'm behind a restrictive firewall too, and
I sync with remote https repositories through a Squid proxy all the time
(since at least hg 1.3), so I believe this is/was specific to your proxy or
network. Are you still able to reproduce it with recent mercurial versions?
