[Python-modules-team] Can we get rid of svn-buildpackage?

Twas brillig at 16:10:29 16.08.2008 UTC+02 when haas at debian.org did gyre and gimble:

 CH> - upstream tarball gets imported as a Git branch so you don't need
 CH> an extra "tarballs" directory to build a package (yes, this wastes
 CH> a little more space but is pretty convenient)

This is cons, as it is not possible this way to have a pristine (up to
md5sum) upstream tarball in orig.tar.gz.
