[Python-modules-team] Bug#571203: Bug#571203: RuntimeError: the sip module

I'm on Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, but I see the same symptom (let's see if it's
the same problem).

In response to Torsten,

 >>> from PyQt4 import QtCore

does not lead to the same error for me. It produces the output:

import PyQt4 # directory /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/PyQt4
# /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/PyQt4/__init__.pyc matches
import PyQt4 # precompiled from
dlopen("/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/PyQt4/QtCore.so", 2);
dlopen("/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/sip.so", 2);
import sip # dynamically loaded from /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/sip.so
import PyQt4.QtCore # dynamically loaded from

As you can see, python 2.6.
The repositories give me python-qt4 version 4.6.
I have the version 4.9.1 of the sip4 package (all from the repositories
-- no manual downloads and installs here -- at least not of these packages).

Thanks for looking into this!
