I see no reason to believe this isn't compatible with Python 2.7.

It builds fine, imports, and the tests make suitable-sounding noise.

No issues reported upstream, and no new commits (dead upstream?)

I'll commit a change to unblock 2.7 to SVN, and if I see no objection,
upload it in a couple of days.
