FWIW

I have ran into the same issue while testing demos of psychopy

so if you want to reproduce, just

apt-get install psychopy

and run

python /usr/share/pyshared/psychopy/demos/coder/timing/timeByFrames.py

whenever you see red bar growing press some key (e.g. space) -- you should
experience segfault whenever the script tries to work with matplotlib,  Bug
gets "preconditioned" by imports from psychopy -- if there is no imports from
psychopy, script (having commented out relevant part) seems to plot fine.
