Apart from the -a option, I don't have any other ideas besides using
pytest-xvfb.

I believe you are right, let's disable the tests for Stretch and re-
enable them in Buster using pytest-xvfb. I'll keep the autopkgtests
alive though since deb-ci seems to work.
